About The Position

The Nurse Scientist advances evidence-based practice and research initiatives within the Emergency Nurses Association through high-impact research, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and engagement with the global emergency nursing community. This role is crucial in shaping the future of emergency nursing by driving innovation and excellence through research.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse
  • Doctorate (PhD, DNP, or equivalent) in Nursing Science or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in critical care nursing, including conducting and coordinating research initiatives.
  • Demonstrated competence with quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies.
  • Record of published research and active participation in scientific forums or conferences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with, or demonstrated interest in, developing grant proposals and securing external research funding.
  • Experience with implementation science or implementation research.
  • Experience conducting multi-site research studies.
  • Prior engagement in international research collaborations.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor or guide emerging researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies emerging trends and opportunities in emergency nursing research.
  • Coordinates high-impact research initiatives focused on improving emergency nursing practices.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates research projects, ensuring adherence to methodological rigor and ethical standards.
  • Contributes to the development of strategic plans that align research initiatives with the association’s long-term goals.
  • Collaborates with internal and external teams to integrate research findings into practice resources and educational offerings.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, industry partners, and governmental bodies to advance shared research objectives.
  • Serves as a scientific advisor to the association’s members and ENA staff.
  • Disseminates research insights through conferences, publications, and educational platforms.
  • Supports mentoring and staff development within the research team and ENA.
  • Contributes to the workplace culture that is consistent with the association’s culture statement and emphasizes the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Displays a high level of accountability, taking responsibility for individual actions and the impact on the organization. Views oneself as a reflection of the organization by following through on commitments and accepting ownership.
  • Performs additional related duties as required or assigned.
