The NP will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, patient-centered primary care to the people of Nuxalk Nation and Bella Coola. This opportunity includes housing and transportation, and the FTE is flexible. The interdisciplinary team is enthusiastic about integrating NPs into their care model. The Nuxalk Nation and the Nuxalkmc (Nuxalk People) have been located in and around Bella Coola for thousands of years. This beautiful land is the traditional and ancestral home of the Nuxalk Nation and sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of about 1800 people. The community is at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of British Columbia. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute bed, 5 long term care beds and a 3 bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services. Also within the hospital are a medical clinic and a pharmacy. As a Nurse Practitioner with VCH you will be responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of patients and clients including diagnosing diseases, disorders and conditions. You will initiate treatment including health care management, therapeutic interventions and prescribes medications in accordance with the statutory and regulatory standards, limits and conditions, and employer policies and procedures. You will provide professional guidance to other health professionals and participates autonomously as a member of the interdisciplinary health teams. You will collaborate with clients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for clients, families and communities. You will develop and implement population and evidence-based strategies to improve health and participate in policy-making and quality improvement activities that influence health services and practices. You will participate in peer, program and self-review to evaluate the outcome of the services at the client, community and population level. You will be responsible for own professional development and maintaining competence in the position, and maintaining privileges as active medical staff as required. You will report to the Senior Director, Nurse Practitioners, and with accountability to the Medical Director for the service area.
