We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our growing Pediatric Neurology multi-disciplinary team! Our clinical services span: Pediatric Neurology (including metabolism and genetics), Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics, Pediatric and Family Nurse Practitioners, Nutrition and feeding, Speech-Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), Music Therapy, Family Counseling, Behavior Intervention (ABA), Electroencephalography (EEG), and Neuromodulation Therapies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 months in pediatric practice in an outpatient setting (pediatric or family nurse practitioner), preferably behavioral neurology and/or Neurodevelopmental Medicine (NDM) and pediatric behavior disorders, including autism.
  • Proficient in ADIR/ADOS diagnostic evaluation (Gold standard).
  • Possess an active and unincumbered RN and NP License in practicing state, Board Certification (AANP or ANCC), eligible for payor credentialing.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Genuine desire to work with pediatric patients with neurodevelopmental conditions and/or other special needs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Desire to serve as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team working with children with developmental disabilities and their families/caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Complete thorough patient intakes, screenings, and assessments that incorporate the unique characteristics and needs of each patient and family member into the plan of care
  • Triage referrals for acute needs to other members of the Cortica team
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team members to coordinate compendium of care for each patient
  • Utilize the nursing process, scientific reasoning and critical problem solving to practice within the scope of responsibilities as defined by the California Board of Nursing including placing orders and screening tests in in accordance with approved protocol(s) and guidelines
  • Provide appropriate clinical documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for all patient encounters
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical teams
  • Participate in annual performance reviews, as needed

  • NPs have multiple roles depending on their NDM knowledge, skills, and experience. Thus, there is ample room to grow personally and professionally with dedicated team of providers and the rapid national expansion of our centers to help you on your journey:
  • Cortica’s Welcome Visit : Cortica’s NPs get to be the first to welcome new families into our model with a telehealth visit. During the visit, you will share the overall model that we use and help families access developmental and behavioral services that are right for their child. This will include gathering information about neurodevelopmental challenges, conducting needed telehealth-based diagnostic assessments and screenings to kick off cascade for downstream therapy and medical service referrals including DT, ABA, Counseling, Parent Education. Opportunities exist for a full-time telehealth NP role conducting Welcome Visits.
  • Cortica Nurse Education Program : Cortica’s NPs have the opportunity, if desired, to also spend a portion of their clinical time providing ongoing education to families enrolled in our medical program on a diverse set of well-delineated topics including what it means to have an autism label, how to help you child sleep, pill-swallowing, sexuality, navigating the school system and much more.
  • Cortica’s Nutrition Program : Cortica’s NPs have the opportunity, if desired, to also provide nutrition evaluation and dietary support in concert with our speech and occupational therapy team. Our program is based on the SOS feeding approach and.
  • Cortica Medical Management Program : Cortica’s NPs have the opportunity, if desired to also work with our cognitive and behavioral child neurologists and pediatricians to provide ongoing care for attention, sleep, headaches, and challenging behavior, medication management as well as medical follow-ups
