About The Position
The Nurse Practitioner performs a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for patient admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation. The role also participates in performance improvement, research, and educational activities. Assignments are available in the Eastern Long Island region, including Bay Shore, Port Jefferson, and Riverhead. Per diem and/or long-term contract assignments are offered. Six months of experience is preferred.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program.
- National Board Certification in the specialty area.
- Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
- A collaborative practice agreement with designated protocols filed with the New York State Department of Education, or a collaborative relationship attestation under the Nurse Practitioner Modernization Act 2015.
- Current BLS certification.
Nice To Haves
- Six months of experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Take initial patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Initiate, document, and communicate the plan of care, and follow up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
- Perform daily patient rounds.
- Write orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
- Interpret laboratory and test results.
- Confer with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
- Upon discharge, note discharge summaries, prescriptions, and referrals on patient charts.
- Inform patients of necessary post-discharge care instructions.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Participate in performance improvement, research, and educational activities.
