About The Position

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner to work in the Primary Care Service, providing comprehensive primary care to a defined patient panel. The role includes taking histories, performing physical examinations, ordering laboratory and diagnostic studies, diagnosing conditions, and developing treatment plans for acute and chronic conditions within the scope of medical practice. The position covers Compensation and Pension (C&P), Environmental Health, and Military Environmental Exposure (MEE) assessments. C&P examiners complete Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs), Acceptable Clinical Evidence (ACE) exams, and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) exams referred through internal consults. A clinician triages all requests from the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). Exams are expected to be scheduled within 20 days of receipt from VBA, with cases completed and returned for ratings within 30 days. C&P examiners are cross-trained as Environmental Health examiners and conduct Environmental Health Registry and MEE exams. The position serves Veterans amid increased demand for C&P, Environmental Health, and MEE services associated with the PACT Act. The successful candidate will bring strong medical knowledge, interpersonal skills, and leadership ability, and will contribute input to clinic-development projects. The position supports the VA’s Whole Health approach, which emphasizes personalized health plans, healing relationships and environments, and connections to the Veteran’s community. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Telework is not available, and this is not a virtual position. Relocation and recruitment incentives are not authorized. The position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer competitive status.
