About The Position

UPMC in Central PA is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to join its Primary Care team in a hybrid Float and Inboxologist role. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced APP who enjoys variety, collaboration, and making a meaningful impact on access and care coordination across primary care practices. The successful candidate will provide short-term clinical support at multiple clinical sites providing acute care and serve as an Inboxologist, managing Epic in-basket responsibilities to help reduce the administrative burden on providers and improve continuity of care. The role involves providing acute patient care at UPMC Primary Care practices within a defined region, filling in during periods of provider leave, transition, or high demand. It also includes delivering same-day acute care during business hours, using a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) model, and supporting care teams by managing Epic in-basket messages, including lab results, refill requests, and patient communications. Collaboration with office staff, physicians, and other APPs is essential to ensure continuity, safety, and timeliness of care.

Requirements

  • Current licensure and certification to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in family medicine, urgent care, or a similar outpatient setting required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Epic EMR and in-basket workflows is essential.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to meet evolving demands of shifting clinics and inbox responsibilities
  • Excellent clinical judgment, adaptability, and communication skills.
  • Must obtain and maintain hospital privileges as required by the practice.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with the patients served as specified below
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
  • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs

  • The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required
  • Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required
  • National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • Act 33 Clearance will be required
  • Act 73 Clearance will be required
  • Act 34 Clearance required
  • The successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or a graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) program is required
  • Completion of National Certification
  • Must achieve a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating or higher on annual performance evaluation for consideration and to maintain status annually
  • Completion of an OAPP approved professional contribution within one year of hire or promotion into the position.
  • Must have department chair approval for promotion
  • ACLS or ITLS or NALS or PALS or ACLS or other certifications listed must meet AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • OAPP: If practicing in an outpatient or other non-inpatient setting, APPs can use one of the certifications above or use a business unit approved certification which is relevant, and value added to the practice setting.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN, MSN is preferred
  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred
  • BSN, MSN preferred for CRNP, BS or MS preferred for PA
