About The Position

Under general direction, provide preventative medical care and treatment to patients in clinics and health centers. This role involves assessing patients' physical health status, performing physical examinations, and providing preventive health treatments. The Nurse Practitioner will interview patients to obtain medical history, request and interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate healthcare plans. They will also prescribe and dispense medications, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, maintain records, and ensure compliance with laws and regulations. The position may involve supervising assigned staff, including scheduling, performance appraisal, and training.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner in the State of Texas by the State Board of Nurse Examiners or equivalent from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Two (2) years' nursing experience.
  • Must have prescriptive authority.
  • Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ physical health status, perform prescribed physical examinations and preventive health treatments.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical history and identify patients' health status.
  • Request, interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients’ clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Interpret health assessment information to formulate and implement health care plans according to established policies.
  • Prescribe and dispense prescription and non-prescription drugs as needed, based on documented information and symptoms.
  • Support health programs in providing patient care along with social workers, nutritionists, and nursing staff and other paraprofessional personnel from other disciplines.
  • Maintain records and prepare oral and written reports in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Maintain professional licensure and keep up-to-date with recent medical developments.
  • Manage patient records and ensure daily care program needs are met.
  • May supervise assigned staff, including scheduling, assigning, instructing, guiding, and checking work.
  • Appraise employee performance.
  • Provide for training and development.
  • Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially.
  • Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony.
  • Recommend hiring, termination, discipline, or other employee status changes.
