The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing nursing care services to residents/clients as assigned, making observations on an advanced level, forming nursing judgments, carrying out nursing actions based upon understanding of the scientific principles involved, reporting and recording observations appropriately. This role involves conducting physical exams, comprehensive medical and social histories, ordering and interpreting tests, prescribing treatments, performing therapeutic measures, referring individuals to specialists, providing health education and counseling, managing client care plans, assessing social/economic factors, connecting clients with community resources, contracting with clients regarding responsibilities, maintaining productivity, making client home visits, and accepting after-hours calls on a rotating schedule. The position also involves participating in the development of health education materials and clinical practice guidelines, obtaining informed consent, and representing the practice in community programs and before governing bodies.
