About The Position

Under the direction of the Site Medical Director, Long Beach, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary medical care services. This is an onsite position, 5 days per week. The Nurse Practitioner will provide primary medical care for adult patients at APLA Health at its medical clinic in Long Beach and other clinical sites as needed. They will conduct histories and physical exams, order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests, and establish treatment plans. The role includes administering or recommending medications, documenting information in the medical record within 48 hours, and providing health maintenance and preventative care. The Nurse Practitioner will also participate in chart review and quality assurance activities, follow APLA Health PrEP and PEP protocols, provide medical management for transgender patients including hormone therapy, and evaluate/treat patients for sexually transmitted infections. The NP is expected to see 14 or more patients per day and will have 10% administrative time. Other duties may include telephone and in-person triage, seeing same-day or walk-in patients, and providing injection treatments.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner license with no pending or previous disciplinary action from any state licensing entity.
  • Minimum 1 year experience managing primary care patients preferred.
  • Must possess a current, RN, NP Furnishing and DEA license and BLS/CPR certificate.
  • Must be eligible to participate in Medicare, Medi-Cal, F-PACT and other federal health programs.
  • Experience working with electronic health records required.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
  • Proof of auto liability insurance.
  • Use of a personal vehicle for work related purposes.
  • COVID vaccination and booster required or medical/religious exemption.

Nice To Haves

  • eClinicalWorks preferred.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish is a plus.
  • Experience with management of HIV positive persons and/or LGBTQIA+ persons preferred.
  • On-call duties by phone only are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary medical care for adult patients at APLA Health at its medical clinic in Long Beach and other clinical sites as needed.
  • Conduct histories and physical exams on patients.
  • Order, interpret and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients’ clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Establishes treatment plans, administers, furnishes or recommends medications.
  • Documents gathered information in medical record as required by policies and completes charting within 48 hours of a clinical encounter.
  • Provides health maintenance and preventative care according to quality evidence based standards and protocols related to contractual obligations.
  • Participates in chart review and quality assurance activities as part of APLA Health Quality Management Program.
  • Follow APLA Health PrEP and PEP protocols for qualified patients.
  • Provide medical management for transgender patients, including hormone therapy management.
  • Evaluate and treat patients presenting for sexually transmitted infection testing in accordance with protocols.
  • Provide primary care services for HIV positive persons based on expert guidelines.
  • See 14 or more patients per full clinic day.
  • Perform administrative duties amounting to 10% of the work week.
  • Perform other clinic duties such as telephone and in person triage, seeing same-day or walk in patients, and providing injection treatments.
  • Complete other clinic duties as assigned to meet business needs.
