About The Position

Under general supervision of the Hospital Attending Physician, in collaboration with clinical nursing staff, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the evaluation of and development of treatment plans. They assist in the care and management of patients, including admission history and physicals, ongoing assessment and intervention, coordination of care, and discharge planning. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the needs of the patient. The role fosters patient and family-centered care and nursing services aligned with Lifespan’s mission, vision, and values. Requirements

  • Graduate from a Nurse Practitioner program with MS degree.
  • Certified by the American Nurses Association (ANA) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to practice in the expanded role.
  • License must include prescriptive privileges.
  • Completion of a course in American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
  • Must have patient care services, procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with psychiatric patients in some capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates patient status and participates in the development of a patient care management plan with the registered nurses and the attending physician.
  • Provides educational and liaison support to health care team members.
  • Obtains and records medical histories, performs and records physical examinations, records pertinent progress notes in the medical records, develops treatment and discharge plans, develops follow-up plans, and initiates life-saving measures in emergency situations until aid arrives.
  • May assist in clinical research projects, including data acquisition, entry and analysis as needed.
  • Participates in quality improvement teams, and other committees, as needed.
  • Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
