About The Position

Odyssey House Louisiana, Inc. is seeking a motivated and compassionate full-time Nurse Practitioner to provide high-quality, client-focused health care services within the New Orleans Inpatient Services program. The Nurse Practitioner will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), responsible for maintaining high standards of nursing care, ethical patient treatment, understanding addiction and its medications, managing withdrawal symptoms, documenting care, reviewing and implementing treatment orders, and communicating effectively with the MDT.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing Science
  • Active, unencumbered LA NP license with prescriptive authority
  • Current good standing with regulating National Certifying Board
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience
  • At least 1 year of Electronic Health Records experience
  • CPR certification
  • Proficient in MS Office 365
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to exercise patience, approachability, and consistency in a high-stress environment

Responsibilities

  • Conduct H&Ps and intake assessments for inpatient clients.
  • Support medical matters including medical documentation, and reporting of abuse and neglect.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA Privacy Rules.
  • Participate in monthly One on One meetings and monthly in-services.
  • Assist in maintaining the client census and timely movement of clients through the treatment program.
  • Complete incident reports per agency policy, ensuring prompt submission to Program Manager and Director.
  • Safely administer medications as ordered using the five rights and utilizing a MAR.
  • Manage patient pharmacy orders by timely processing PAs, by fax or verbal order, ensuring their arrival and logging them onto patient’s MAR.
  • Manage the MAR daily, weekly, and monthly as needed.
  • Ensure the security of narcotics, keys, and all other medications.
  • Participate in medication and medical supply inventory control.
  • Educate clients on prescribed medication tapers.
  • Ensure communication of medication procedures to discharged clients and scan discharged clients' acknowledgement receipts of medications.
  • Encourage clients’ participation by empowering them.
  • Maintain professionalism with staff members and clients.
  • Complete triage on patient at time of admission and transcribe it to relevant paperwork for MDT.
  • Follow treatment care plans set forth by the medical staff.
  • Coordinate/facilitate patient care, work collaboratively and maintain communication with patient care team (providers, counselors, etc.) to provide effective, timely, and appropriate patient management.
  • Provide on-going assessment of acute medical/nursing needs of all residents and refer residents to appropriate treatment centers.
  • Coordinate shift changes with night staff and Medical Staff Daily Inquiries review.
  • Check-in with the Front Desk regarding clients who went to ER after hours and obtain medical feedback sheets and any pertinent labs and notes for the visit.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies including CARF, LDH, ASAM.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
