About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner will diagnose, treat, and care for incarcerated patients. This role involves conducting physical examinations, identifying patient care issues, managing wounds and infections, prescribing medications, and counseling inmates on preventive care and treatment. The position also includes performing routine wound care, developing patient management plans, and utilizing Quality Assurance results to improve inmate care standards. The Nurse Practitioner must comply with all institutional rules, directives, policies, procedures, and protocols.

Requirements

  • Current & valid Nurse Practitioner (NP) license
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Current DEA license and prescriptive authority
  • Must be able to pass background check
  • Experience as practicing as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate area of practice.

  • Correctional experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, treat, and care for incarcerated patients.
  • Conduct physical examinations and identify short-term and long-range patient care issues.
  • Determine abnormal conditions by administering or ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Manage wounds and infections.
  • Prescribe and administer medications as appropriate.
  • Counsel inmates on preventive care, medical problems, and use of prescribed treatment.
  • Perform routine wound care, minor debridement, and dressing changes.
  • Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Utilize the results of Quality Assurance to improve standards of inmate care and standards of nursing practice.
  • Comply with all rules, directives, policies, procedures, and protocols of the institution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
