About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Advanced Wound Care Center specializes in the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based management of acute, chronic, and non-healing wounds. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the APP delivers direct clinical care, performs specialized outpatient procedures, and optimizes patient outcomes through tailored treatment plans. Under general supervision, responsible for diagnosing and treating patients in collaboration with physician colleagues. Provide continuity of patient care by facilitating and coordinating communication between the health care team, patient and patient’s family. Coordinate care to ensure quality, cost effective care; appropriate length of stay; and patient safety. Serves as link integrating relevant research and best practices.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Master’s or Doctoral Nurse Practitioner program (FNP, AGNP, ACNP) or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current, unencumbered Maryland state NP or PA license; active DEA license and state prescriptive authority.
  • Board Certification (AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA).
  • BLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Wound Specialist (CWS), CWOCN, or WCC certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 12–24 months).
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) training/certification preferred.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of clinical experience in outpatient wound care, surgical specialties, vascular, or dermatology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed evaluations, physical exams, and vascular assessments (e.g., ABIs) for patients with complex wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure injuries, and surgical wounds.
  • Perform bedside procedural interventions, including sharp debridement, dynamic tissue transfer/dressing application, graft application, and wound culture collection.
  • Develop and modify individualized treatment protocols, including advanced wound dressings, compression therapy, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), and cellular/tissue-based products (CTPs).
  • Evaluate patients for hyperbaric therapy, supervise active HBO treatments, and monitor for side effects or complications.
  • Coordinate care with vascular surgery, podiatry, infectious disease, endocrinology, and home health services to address underlying systemic etiologies.
  • Maintain accurate, timely electronic medical record (EMR) documentation according to clinic standards, coding requirements, and billing guidelines.
  • Educate patients on disease management, offloading techniques, infection prevention, nutrition, and home wound care.
