About The Position

This is a locum tenens position for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician's Assistant (PA) in Emergency Medicine. The role involves providing high-quality emergency care to patients of all ages in a fast-paced Emergency Department (ED) environment. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, and managing acute illnesses, injuries, and emergent conditions both independently and collaboratively. The position requires performing procedures within the scope of practice, such as suturing, splinting, incision and drainage (I&D), wound care, and joint reductions, depending on the facility's capabilities. Collaboration with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff is crucial for efficient patient flow and optimal outcomes. Accurate documentation of patient encounters and compliance with hospital standards and regulatory requirements are essential.

Requirements

  • Active NP or PA license with ability to practice in Massachusetts
  • National certification (AANP/ANCC for NP; NCCPA for PA)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of Emergency Medicine experience required
  • Strong procedural skills and comfort managing high-acuity patients
  • Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
  • Excellent communication, critical-thinking, and teamwork abilities
  • Must be board-certified
