About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Saunders Orthopaedics and Physical Performance Surgery Program. This role involves providing surgical first assistance under the supervision of the Department of Orthopaedics and the attending physician. Responsibilities extend beyond direct patient care to include documenting care, adhering to hospital policies, educating patients and staff, and participating in performance improvement initiatives. The APP will also support the OR team to enhance surgical efficiency and quality, and initiate appropriate evaluation and treatment in emergencies. The position is based at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, New York, 14642.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited APRN or PA program.
Licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider.
A current RNFA certification (for APRNs only).
A BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner (for NPs).
Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing (for NPs).
Active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing (for NPs).
Completion of a RN first assist program (for NPs).
Current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner (for NPs).
Completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program (for PAs).
Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing (for PAs).
Current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (for PAs).
Demonstrate clinical competence.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills.
Computer competence.
Active desire to learn.

Nice To Haves

Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, complex environment.
Proficiency in surgical aseptic technique.
Previous experience in one or more of the following specialties: Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Ambulatory Surgery.
