About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join their Adult Emergency Department team. This full-time, rotating position involves working 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, across multiple regional sites: St. James, Noyes, and Jones Memorial Hospital. The NP/PA will provide initial care in triage, urgent care, and acute care settings, evaluating patients, implementing interventions, monitoring their condition, and determining appropriate disposition. This role requires collaboration with Emergency Medicine physicians and nursing staff, functioning in a 'first chair' capacity. The position also involves active participation in the education of medical, advance practice, and nursing learners, contributing to the academic mission of UR Medicine. Candidates must possess excellent communication and teamwork skills, prior advanced practice experience, and current national certification. New graduates will not be considered.

Requirements

• Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner OR completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program.
• Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing (for NPs).
• Active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing (for NPs).
• Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing (for PAs).
• Current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner (for NPs).
• Current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (for PAs).
• Prior advanced practice experience.
• Current national certification for NPs and PAs.
• Excellent communication and teamwork required.
• Demonstrate clinical competence.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills.
• Computer competence.
• Active desire to learn.

Responsibilities

• Provide initial care in triage, urgent care, and acute care for patients in a fast-paced Emergency Department.
• Evaluate patients, provide appropriate intervention, monitoring, and disposition.
• Work collaboratively with Emergency Medicine physician and nursing staff.
• Function in the 'first chair' role in the Emergency Department.
• Participate in the education of medical, advance practice, and nursing learners.
• Utilize clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing, and skill training for learners and new employees.
