About The Position

This role involves assisting attending physicians in the care and management of patients across various settings including inpatient units, the Emergency Department, clinic environments, and the ICU. Responsibilities include making patient rounds, contributing to daily care decisions, writing orders, interacting with consultants, and coordinating diagnostic tests and procedures. The position may also involve seeing patients in a clinic setting, providing diagnostic and therapeutic healthcare, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, coordinating tests, prescribing medications, and educating patients on treatment plans. For Emergency Department and ICU assignments, acute care ARNP or PA is required. For Emergency Department assignments, the incumbent will consult with the supervisory physician to determine the most appropriate care for patients. For Clinic assignment, under supervision of an attending physician this position will provide diagnostic and therapeutic health care coverage for patients which will include but not be limited to taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, coordinating lab tests, diagnostic studies, prescribing medications, and providing assistance to the patient regarding a plan of treatment and education. Other duties may include sharing call hours, phone coverage, and seeing admitted patients within the hospital.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant.
  • Must meet requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable.
  • Current and clear license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Florida.
  • BLS is required.
  • Acute Care ARNP or PA Required (for Emergency Dept. and ICU assignments).

Responsibilities

  • Assists the attending physician in the care and management of patients on Inpatient units.
  • Makes patient rounds, contributes to decisions for daily care, writes orders, and interacts with consultants.
  • Facilitates and coordinates the scheduling of therapeutic and diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Makes frequent bedside visits to assess patient status and direct care.
  • May see patients in the clinic environment.
  • Assists Emergency Department physicians in the comprehensive medical care of patients in the emergency department and the chest pain observation unit.
  • Consults with the supervisory physician to determine the most appropriate care for patients.
  • Provides diagnostic and therapeutic health care coverage for patients in a clinic setting.
  • Takes medical histories and performs physical examinations.
  • Coordinates lab tests and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribes medications and provides patient education on treatment plans.
  • May share call hours, provide phone coverage, and see admitted patients within the hospital.
  • Assists the attending ICU physician in the care and management of patients.
