About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant for their Surgical Oncology - Breast Center. This full-time position involves daytime hours, Monday through Friday, and offers the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary clinic with the Pluta Breast Program of Wilmot Cancer Institute. The role focuses on coordinating care for patients with benign and malignant breast disease across the care continuum, establishing effective communication with all disciplines. Responsibilities include direct patient care in clinic, pre-operative assessments, surgical first assisting, post-operative care, and symptom management. The position also involves contributing to process improvement, quality indicators, and the education of learners. Participation in community outreach is also part of the role. The primary work location is the Pluta Cancer Center, with occasional needs at the Canandaigua and Brockport locations.

Requirements

  • Current, active certification as an NP with NYS and active license as an RN with NYS or active PA license in NYS with current certification as a PA by NCCPA.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing, and current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Physician Assistant: Completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing, and current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA.
  • Excellent communication and team facilitation skills.
  • NPs and PAs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn.
  • The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 – 5 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (new graduates will be considered).
  • If NP, RNFA preferred as this position will include OR first assisting, though not initially required.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside Breast Surgical Oncology to coordinate care for patients across the care continuum.
  • Establish an effective communication interface with all disciplines.
  • Provide direct care to patients with benign and malignant breast disease, including clinic preparation, clinic visits, education, PRAT (PRe-Operative Assessment and Teaching) visits, surgeries, post-operative care, and symptom management.
  • Assist in the development of process improvement and quality indicators to help assure best practice standards.
  • Assist with the education and training of learners.
  • Participate in community outreach and event activity.
