About The Position

The Massachusetts General Hospital Pulmonary Associates Clinic is committed to providing our patients with the highest quality care by supporting them, their families, and their care providers. The Pulmonary Associates Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is a member of a team (or “pod”) that provides care to a panel of outpatients. Each pod consists of four to six physicians and one NP/PA. The incumbent in collaboration with the physician team, is responsible for diagnosing, prescribing treatments, and providing follow-up for patients. The NP/PA will function both as an independent provider providing direct care and as clinical support providing indirect care. The incumbent will have an interest in working with patients with routine and complex pulmonary disorders, participating in team-based multidisciplinary care, and engaging in research and education opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nursing or Physician Assistant degree required
  • Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as APRN or Physician Assistant required
  • 2 years of licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant experience
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working as Nurse Practitioner is preferred if applying as an NP.
  • Pulmonary related experience as an NP/PA or RN.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and education to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Consistently provides high-quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions in accordance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
