About The Position

University of Minnesota Physicians is seeking a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Certified Physician Assistant to join its Critical Care service at the University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank campus in Minneapolis and at Southdale/Edina. The role provides inpatient care for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit and serves as a critical response provider across the M Health Fairview system. The provider will join a multidisciplinary team of more than 20 advanced practice providers and over 80 physicians, with APPs recognized as essential team members across patient populations and locations. The provider will work with the West Bank critical care team, which manages a 10-bed mixed medical-surgical ICU with a broad range of acuity. Responsibilities include direct patient care, specialist consultation and care coordination, and serving as the primary provider for emergent events on the West Bank. The service is not a formal teaching service; the provider functions autonomously in collaboration with the attending physician. As a critical response provider, the clinician evaluates and treats urgent and emergent adult patients, including inpatients, acute/transitional rehabilitation patients, and inpatient psychiatric patients. The role involves autonomous work with telephone collaboration from critical care attendings and primary teams, rapid assessment and treatment decisions consistent with applicable standards of care, specialist consultation, and facilitating appropriate levels of care. The provider responds to events, develops differential diagnoses and treatment plans quickly, and communicates through precise written and verbal handoffs. The schedule includes one out of three weekends, approximately 70% day shifts of 10 or 12 hours, and approximately 30% 12-hour night shifts. University of Minnesota Physicians is a Minneapolis-headquartered nonprofit organization with more than 1,500 physicians, 500 advanced practice providers, and 200 health professionals and staff across Minnesota and beyond. It offers competitive compensation, benefits, and career-development opportunities, and is an equal opportunity employer.
