About The Position
Phelps Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for its bariatrics service. The role cares for bariatric patients in collaboration with surgeons, dietitians, and other team members in clinic, inpatient, and operating room settings. The position is full-time and based at Phelps Health Hospital in Rolla, Missouri.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate candidates for bariatric surgery, including taking histories and performing physicals and assessing obesity-related conditions.
- Order and interpret preoperative laboratory tests, imaging, and screenings; coordinate clearances and insurance documentation.
- Educate patients about procedures, preoperative diets, and lifestyle changes, and obtain informed consent.
- Round on inpatients and manage postoperative care, pain, wounds, and complications such as leaks or strictures.
- Provide long-term follow-up, including monitoring weight loss, nutrition, vitamins and minerals, and adjusting medications.
- Manage comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea as they change after surgery.
- Assist in the operating room and perform credentialed bedside and clinic procedures.
- Document accurately and support program quality and accreditation data.
