About The Position

The Division of Thoracic Surgery is seeking a NP or PA to join a collaborative team of advanced practice providers, surgeon consultants, fellows, residents, nurses, and other allied health staff to provide comprehensive hospital and clinic coverage for adult surgical patients undergoing complex thoracic procedures. NPs and PAs are integral members of a talented surgery team, where teamwork, learning, and collaboration are essential to meeting patient needs. Responsibilities include independent preoperative assessments, coordination of patient care, and management of surgical patients in both preoperative and postoperative outpatient settings. The NP/PA team also participates in all aspects of care for hospitalized patients, including admission, discharge, daily rounding, and patient education. Duties encompass comprehensive patient assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosing conditions, and prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, with a high level of autonomy expected. Requirements

  • Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certification as a: Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification (ANP), Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (ACNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGNP or AGPCNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP or ACNPC-AG), Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Certification (GNP) (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice (for Physician Assistant)
  • Registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is required (for Physician Assistant)
  • BLS, ACLS, is required
  • 2-3 letters of reference to their online application to be considered for this position
  • 3 letters of reference from preceptors that can attest to your clinical abilities (for new graduates)
  • 3 most recent performance evaluations to online application to be considered for this position (for Mayo Clinic employees)

  • Shift Differential: Weekend (Friday 11PM to Sunday 11PM) $4.00 (7AM to 3PM) $7.80 (3PM to 11PM)
  • PTO Accrual for Salaried Employees: Less than 2 years: 224 hours annually (8.62 hours per pay period); 2 years: 264 hours annually (10.15 hours per pay period); 10 years: 280 hours annually (10.77 hours per pay period); 15+ years: 304 hours annually (11.69 hours per pay period)
