About The Position

The Division of Surgical Oncology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a dynamic, patient-centered, and experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its busy, thriving, and expanding HPB (hepato-pancreato-biliary), Endocrine, and Breast Oncology practice. The successful applicant will be a board-certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant interested in working full-time in caring for patients within these specialties. This role involves collaborating with four abdominal Surgical Oncology/HPB surgeons, five Breast surgeons, and three Endocrine surgeons to evaluate and manage new surgical patients, and will also include independent clinics. The Advanced Practice Provider's (APP) practice will primarily be in the outpatient clinic setting, with locations at the NCI designated Hollings Cancer Center, MUSC Ashley River Tower, MUSC Health East Mt. Pleasant, MUSC Nexton, and MUSC Health West Ashley. The MUSC Surgical Oncology section is committed to providing high-quality, cutting-edge treatments. The surgeons are looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented, and energetic APP to support their high-volume clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN (AGPNP/ANP for adult patients 13 years to death, stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting; OR FNP for birth to death, stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law

Nice To Haves

  • Physician Assistant (PA) or if APRN, AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) for adult patients (13 years to death), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent
  • New Grad or experienced provider with interest in Surgical Oncology/Cancer care
  • 3-5 years of experience in Surgical Oncology as an PA/APP

Responsibilities

  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
  • Active participant in Tumor Boards
  • Participate in Surgical Oncology Clinical trials
  • Obtain surgical consents
  • Travel to clinic sites in West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant and Nexton with possible expansion to other sites
  • Work at MUSC plus travel
