About The Position

The successful candidate will be an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) seeking a full-time position within an orthopaedic hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery practice. This role includes clinical responsibilities in both the outpatient setting and the operating room. The APP will join a high-volume, well-established Orthopaedic Surgery practice consisting of three nationally recognized experts, providing comprehensive, high-quality care to a diverse patient population.

Requirements

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant OR completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.
AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP) or FNP (Family NP) for APRN License Type/Certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS).
If applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Nice To Haves

Two years as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in Orthopedic Surgery or another surgical subspecialty preferred.
APRN with RNFA certification.

Responsibilities

Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
Evaluates and treats based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief, including suture lacerations/wounds, suture/staple removal, placement/removal of surgical drains and tubes, incision and drainage of abscesses, administration of IV medications, IM/SC injections, administration of local anesthetic, ordering and initiation of peripheral venous access, obtaining body fluids for testing via venipuncture, arterial access, aspiration of seroma/hematoma, and urinary catheter.
Perform wound management (debridement and closure, dressing take-down and application).
Prescribe medical devices.
Splinting/casting.
Fracture/joint reduction.
Joint injection/aspiration.
Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician.
Documents and bills for direct care provided.
Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members.
APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law.
The APP will be responsible for travelling to different MUSC ambulatory clinics to support their assigned physicians.
