About The Position

Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Nurse Practitioner for our Neurosurgery Department who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

Requirements

  • Completed an Accredited NP Program
  • NCCPA certification required
  • Maryland State NP license required
  • CDS and DEA required
  • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Active American Heart Association ACLS required.
  • Meet credentialing requirements for Medical staff, including background check
  • Knowledge of peri-operative needs of patients including medical, physical, and surgical/obstetrical.
  • Proficiency with surgical assisting skills in all specialties, including laparoscopic and open procedures, suturing and wound closure techniques, equipment and complications.
  • Ability to perform accurate physical exams and develop care plans including appropriate testing and treatments.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, staff and other clinicians.
  • Maintain organized workflow while multi-tasking.
  • Clear and accurate documentation of clinical records.
  • Understand clinical and administrative priorities and be flexible to adjust workflow as needed to meet daily requirements of busy department.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years neurosurgical experience or surgical residency preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily rounds and post-operative visits, documenting appropriately and communicating with attending.
  • Perform initial and on-going assessments of patients medical and physical status, including H&Ps and neurosurgical consultations, to help develop treatment plan.
  • Assist as needed in surgeries, including pre/post-operative set up and documentation to include admission/discharge orders and brief op note; Includes lumbar, cervical, and cranial surgeries.
  • Coordinate with other departments and consultants as needed for inpatient care and discharge planning.
  • Coordinate service recovery to ensure positive patient experience and clinical excellence.
  • Order and interpret patient testing such as lab work and imaging, order treatments or follow-up based on results.
  • Perform therapeutic/corrective measures and procedures as needed, to include drain placement/management/removal, suture placement, dressing changes, etc. Includes EVD, myelograms, and lumbar punctures.
  • Provide patients, families, and nursing staff with education, counseling, and discharge instructions/expectations as needed.
