About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This is a new position added to support patients with osteoporosis management. There is an identified need to improve the referral access for orthopedic patients with fragile fractures. This APP would work independently with guidance and support of the endocrinology physician team. The Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to patients with endocrine disorders such as diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, adrenal and pituitary disorders, and metabolic conditions. The NP works collaboratively with endocrinologists and healthcare teams to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care, emphasizing patient education, disease management, and prevention.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
  • State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
  • National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC).
  • Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP)
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
  • Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.

Nice To Haves

  • If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Certification in Diabetes Education (CDE) or experience in diabetes management is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of endocrine disorders, pathophysiology, and treatment modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history-taking, physical exams, and review of diagnostic tests.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic endocrine disorders.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests as per scope of practice and state regulations.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Provide patient education on disease processes, medication management, lifestyle modifications, and self-care techniques.
  • Collaborate with physicians, dietitians, diabetes educators, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and documentation.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with advances in endocrinology.
  • Facilitate referrals to specialists or community resources as needed.
  • Support research activities or clinical trials, if applicable.
