About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider, either Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, functions as an Intensivist within an 18 bed critical care unit. This role partners with a multidisciplinary team to manage critically ill and complex patients from admission through transfer. The APP provides high quality, evidence based care and demonstrates advanced clinical judgment, strong technical competence, and professional communication. This is a nocturnist role requiring night shifts, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule.

Requirements

  • Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program (for NP role)
  • Current MN RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP or ACNP (for NP role)
  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the MN State Board of Medical Practice (for PA role)
  • Active BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date
  • DEA registration required
  • Open to new grads with fellowship training, ICU clinical or RN experience

Nice To Haves

  • ICU APP experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document comprehensive history and physical examinations, daily progress notes, and transfer and discharge summaries in the electronic health record
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests using appropriate clinical assessment techniques
  • Continuously assess patient risk factors including medication effects, hemodynamic stability, nutrition, mobility, fluid balance, and invasive therapies
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop accurate diagnoses for acute and complex conditions
  • Order, perform, interpret, and oversee diagnostic testing
  • Develop and document differential diagnoses and risk stratification to guide care planning
  • Develop individualized, evidence based plans of care aligned with clinical protocols and patient needs
  • Identify expected outcomes and adjust plans based on patient condition and response
  • Prescribe diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to optimize outcomes
  • Perform procedures within scope and competency, including line placement and removal, suturing, and wound management
  • Continuously evaluate patient progress and modify the plan of care based on clinical findings
  • Ensure vigilant monitoring and attention to detail to support optimal patient outcomes
  • Maintain effective communication with the interdisciplinary care team
  • Facilitate clear communication with patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Complete documentation accurately, timely, and in compliance with regulatory standards
