About The Position

The UAB Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join their team. This role is open to Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants. The position involves working 12-hour PM shifts exclusively on weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 7pm-7am). This is a full-time salaried position (1.0 FTE) that includes three 12-hour shifts per week, with the remaining four hours dedicated to administrative activities. A rotating holiday schedule is in effect. APPs accepting this weekend position agree to a one-year commitment, with exceptions requiring APP Leadership approval. The role offers a weekend-only stipend, eligibility for extra shift pay, and full-time benefits. Requirements

• Master's degree in Nursing with an Adult Acute Care NP certification, or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
• Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Knowledge of procedures, protocols, information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, disease and deformities.
• Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools and programs.
• Written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to surgical patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician or under supervision of a Board-Certified Physician.
• Coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age specific needs of the patient.
• Plan and coordinate health care education for patient, family and other health care providers as needed.
• Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
• Interpret, analyze and evaluate patient’s medical record and social data.
• Perform and/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement.
• Coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.
• Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions, including patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
• Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, patient care plans, and care provided.
• Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
• Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
• May coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
• May assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and a liaison between the patient and other health care providers.
• Provide assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed.
• Provide educational information by conducting workshops, in-service training and distributing appropriate materials for patients and staff.
• Serve as the expert clinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
• Provide a safe environment for patients and others.
• Demonstrate a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

• Full-time advanced practice provider (APP) position is eligible for benefits.
• Weekend Only Stipend Pay: APPs working exclusively weekend nights will be eligible for a $2,500.00 stipend ($30,000 when annualized), paid monthly.
• Extra Shifts: APPs holding a weekend position are eligible for extra shift pay if extra shifts are worked outside of their required schedule. Extra shifts worked during the week will be paid at the regular extra shift rate ($80/hr- AM and $90/hr - PM).
