About The Position

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is actively recruiting for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to work full-time in the pre- and post-operative care of cardiac patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The APP will join a large and busy division, contributing to a wide range of complex surgical procedures. This role focuses on direct patient care, documentation, and quality improvement initiatives, with potential opportunities for precepting students and facilitating team learning.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant OR completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.
  • AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP) for adult patients (18 years to death) with stable chronic disease management or primary care.
  • FNP (Family NP) for patients from birth to death with stable chronic disease management or primary care across the lifespan.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to the first day.

Nice To Haves

  • Physician Assistant or AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) for adult patients (18 years to death), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable, or technologically dependent.
  • One year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP).

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients through alternating roles in the inpatient step-down unit and outpatient clinic setting.
  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as chest tube placement and removal, bedside chemical pleurodesis, arterial line placement, ultrasound guided IV placement, wound vac placement, and simple suture.
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers and consults with physicians.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities.
  • Potential to precept students and facilitate the learning of new team members.
  • Maintains licenses, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
