Our team consists of 8 PEM attendings, 6 PEM fellows, 3 pediatric nurse practitioners, a dedicated child life and nursing staff, as well as pediatric and emergency medicine residents. Our department sees approximately 18,000 patients in a 10-bedded unit, with additional evaluation chairs and a separate pediatric triage area. The nurse practitioner will work relatively independently in the busy pediatric emergency department under the supervision of an attending physician. They will be responsible for the acute care of pediatric patients and shall assess the physical and psychological status of the patient by means of history, physical exam and diagnostic tests. They will be expected to follow clinical protocols, complete appropriate documentation for all medical encounters, to be cosigned and reviewed by the attending physician, perform routine pediatric emergency medicine procedures, including but not limited to suturing, splinting, phlebotomy, and urethral catheterizations, and write prescriptions in accordance with Federal and New York State Law. Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Nursing required
  • Current New York State License as a PEDIATRIC or FAMILY Nurse Practitioner
  • Current New York State License as a Registered Nurse
  • Current American Nurses Credentialing Center (or equivalent) Certification as an Adult, Acute Care or Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Current Registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration
  • Current Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification

Nice To Haves

  • At least 6 months to one year of NP experience in a Pediatric Emergency Department, Pediatric Critical Care or Pediatric Urgent Care setting is preferred.
