We are seeking Nurse Practitioners who are passionate about supporting Indigenous individuals, families, and communities within a primary care environment grounded in respect, cultural humility, and partnership. In this position, you will help shape a model of care that honours Indigenous worldviews, strengths, and healing traditions. You will provide holistic, relationship‑based care to patients across the lifespan, supporting wellness in ways that reflect both Indigenous and Western approaches. Our Nurse Practitioner Residency Program offers a unique postgraduate experience that will elevate your skills and strengthen your transition into independent practice. During your residency, you’ll receive advanced training in a clinical area relevant to your role, with specialized training from in-house experts. You will build connections by working alongside experienced professionals who value teamwork and shared goals. You will develop a model of care that puts patients at the heart of everything you do. You will benefit from mentorship across multiple clinical areas and receive dedicated supervision during clinical placements. Protected time will be set aside for self-directed learning tailored to your clinical practice and needs. You will receive personalized guidance and support with weekly check-ins from an experienced nurse practitioner throughout your residency. Be part of our clinical enhancement program with regular in-house skills development such as 12 lead ECG interpretation, Point of Care ultrasound (POCUS), suturing and x-ray interpretation in addition to receiving centralized NP orientation. You will be welcomed into a New Graduate NP Community of Practice team helping to support your successful transition into independent practice.

Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
  • Three or more years of experience providing culturally safe primary care
  • Experience working with First Nations people and communities, with the ability to integrate holistic Indigenous and Western medical practices

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and treats previously undiagnosed patients/clients/residents for undifferentiated diseases, disorders, and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner's scope of practice; writes orders for treatment and medications; provides first line care in emergencies.
  • Monitors ongoing care, orders appropriate screening diagnostic investigations; interprets reports of investigations and analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment.
  • Establishes priorities for management of health, diseases, disorders, and conditions; provides follow-up treatment; communicates with patients/clients/residents and families about health findings, diagnoses and priorities, outcomes and prognoses; supports and counsels patients/clients/residents in their responses to diseases, disorders and conditions.
  • Collaborates and consults with physicians or other health care and social service providers as appropriate to assess and diagnose patient/client/resident status. Develops and implements treatment plans. May admit and discharge patients/clients/residents to facilities according to organizational policies.
  • Prescribes drugs within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions for Nurse Practitioners and within applicable employer policies and procedures.
  • Assigns work to other nursing and health care personnel; evaluates work and provides education and supervision as necessary; hires staff, and evaluates staff performance.
  • Participates in research contributing to improved patient/client/resident care and advances in nursing, health policy development and population health.
  • Maintains population health focus by implementing screening and health promotion activities for populations at risk.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary staff and nursing education through case presentations, mentoring, role modeling and facilitating the exchange of knowledge in the classroom, the clinical setting and the community; fosters health care partnerships.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.
  • Performs other duties as required.
