About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice RN working in collaboration with physicians to deliver health care services to meet the specialized physiologic and psychological needs of patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions. The NP delivers health care services to a population of patients within their scope of certification and education. Requirements

  • Requires successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Mississippi State Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner required.
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Geriatric Nurse Practitioner required.
  • Must complete and maintain BCLS upon hire and/or transfer.
  • If works in Surgical Services, must complete and maintain BCLS and ACLS certifications upon hire and/or transfer.
  • If works in Pediatrics, current specialty certification as required by department; Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) preferred.
  • Must complete and maintain BCLS and PALS certifications upon hire and/or transfer.
  • If works in Wound Care, current specialty certification as required by department; Must complete and maintain BCLS and ACLS certifications upon hire and/or transfer.
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
  • Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of advance nursing experience preferred.
  • If works in Psychiatric Services, a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care or psychiatric hospital required.
  • Previous experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in an inpatient and outpatient setting preferred.
  • If works in Psychiatric Services, must maintain current Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
