The Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry (NPP), also known as a mental health nurse practitioner, works under the direction of a Psychiatrist to provide medical and psychiatric care. This role involves conducting psychiatric assessments, diagnosing, and treating mental health patients. The NPP will assist in developing treatment plans, must be proficient in psychotropic medications and dosages, and perform a wide range of mental health services including taking medical histories, managing medications, and overseeing ongoing care. This position requires advanced training and education in psychiatric care, pending approval from the Office of Mental Health. The NPP can specialize in one of three patient care tracks: Mental Health, Substance Use Disorder, or Co-Occurring disorders.
