Requirements

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with specialization as a Family Nurse Practitioner from a program accredited by a national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• 24 months of active practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner (or in training) within the last 36 months with demonstrated current clinical competency.
• BLS, ALS (ACLS), and PALS — must be maintained current throughout assignment.
• Certified as a Nurse Practitioner by ANCC, AANP, or recognized national nursing certification organization.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice in any U.S. state or jurisdiction.
• DEA Registration: Required
• U.S. Citizenship required

Responsibilities

• Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with granted privileges
• Diagnose and treat patients with acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols and clinical practice guidelines
• Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, health behaviors, and self-care through education and counseling
• Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
• Serve as primary care manager (PCM) for an assigned patient panel
• Order diagnostic tests and request consultations or referrals with appropriate physicians and health resources
• Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency situations
• Maintain proficiency in electronic health records and specialized medical equipment (IV pumps, cardiac monitors, EKG units, nebulizers)
• Participate in peer review, quality assurance, and continuous quality improvement activities
