About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner, Cardiology Hospitalist will provide Cardiology services as required for patients at the Hospital. This role involves assisting in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Cardiology and related services, and coordinating patient care including history and physicals, laboratory results, charting, and admissions orders. The position requires close collaboration with the Hospital, Cardiologists, and other providers to integrate Cardiology services across inpatient and outpatient settings within the Cape Cod Healthcare system. Responsibilities include timely communication with patients and hospital personnel, providing night-time and/or weekend coverage, and being immediately available to hospital staff for patient-related issues. The role also involves acting as a family liaison, managing various aspects of medical treatment under physician supervision, and participating in discharge planning, including patient education and scheduling follow-up care.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree
  • Current BLS
  • Current ACLS
  • Massachusetts Nursing License
  • US Department of Justice and Massachusetts’ Controlled Substance DEA Registrations are required for prescribing practitioners

  • Three to five years’ cardiovascular service-line experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide Cardiology services as required for patients at the Hospital.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Cardiology and related services.
  • Obtain and coordinate history and physicals, laboratory results, charting of clinical findings, admissions orders, nursing instructions, and other required elements.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with the Hospital and Cardiologists to clinically integrate the Hospital’s Cardiology service line.
  • Return calls to patients and Hospital personnel on a timely basis.
  • Place timely calls to patients and Hospital personnel for ancillary test results, to order follow-up tests, and/or to initiate treatment orders.
  • Provide Night-time and/or weekend coverage Hospital Rounds as determined by the Cardiology team.
  • Be immediately available to nurses and other Hospital staff for questions and problems relating to patients.
  • Assist as a family liaison.
  • Manage aspects of care under the supervision of the attending physician, including fluid and electrolyte management, nutrition, pain management, transfusion therapy, anticoagulation management, education, and post-discharge planning.
  • Manage, monitor, and manage arrhythmias, pacing, drug therapy, O-therapy, and other non-cardiac medications, under supervision.
  • Assist in the evaluation and management of clinical events such as fever, altered hemodynamics, CHF, pulmonary complication, abrupt vessel closure, arrhythmias, and access site complications.
  • Assist in transfers to and from the intensive care units.
  • Perform patient education regarding discharge, including preventive care and risk factor reduction.
  • Write discharge orders, prescriptions, and dictate discharge summaries in collaboration with the attending physician.
  • Act as a liaison between the attending Cardiologist and family members.
  • Schedule follow-up care as necessary.
  • Participate in aspects of research involving planning, performance, and analysis of data, and publication.
  • Complete continuing medical education requirements.
  • Attend internal and external education meetings and read appropriate professional journals.
  • Supervise medical students (MD and/or physician assistant) who do clinical rotations in the Cardiology Department.
  • Teach students, house staff, nurses, technicians, and cardiology fellows.
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested/directed.
  • Provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
