About The Position

CLFC Healthcare and Communications is seeking experienced Nurse Practitioners (APRNs) to provide adult primary and urgent care within the Alaska Department of Corrections. This multi-year opportunity offers recurring statewide assignments, competitive 1099 compensation, billable travel, clinical autonomy, and the chance to practice correctional medicine while serving a medically underserved patient population. The role involves providing adult primary care and urgent care in a secure correctional environment, including jail and prison medicine.

Requirements

  • Active Alaska RN license and Alaska APRN authorization, or demonstrated eligibility and the ability to obtain both prior to assignment.
  • Current national NP certification (ANCC or AANP), Family or Adult/Gerontology scope appropriate to adult correctional care.
  • Active DEA registration, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Correctional healthcare experience is required (jail, prison, or detention setting).
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical practice as an APRN/NP.
  • Ability to pass the facility background investigation.
  • Current BLS.
  • U.S. work authorization required.

  • Multi-year correctional healthcare experience.

  • Existing Alaska licensure and DEA.

  • Rural or frontier medicine and telehealth experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver adult primary and urgent care in a secure correctional (jail/prison) medical environment across assigned Alaska Department of Corrections facilities.
  • Conduct history and physical examinations, diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions, and run sick call and scheduled provider clinics.
  • Manage chronic disease, medication reconciliation, and medication-assisted treatment; prescribe within scope, including controlled substances under active DEA registration.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic studies; coordinate specialty referrals and continuity of care.
  • Respond to urgent and emergent clinical situations and provide on-call coverage per the facility schedule.
  • Document in the facility EHR and comply with correctional healthcare standards, security protocols, and standards of care.
