This position is a blended role providing both acute care and occupational health services to patients at our health centers in Osceola County. In the acute care setting, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) focuses on the timely evaluation and management of episodic illnesses and minor injuries, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and patient education to support rapid recovery and appropriate follow-up for ages 2 years and older. In the occupational health setting, the NP manages work-related injuries and illnesses, performs employment-related services (e.g., physicals, screenings, and regulatory exams), and supports return-to-work evaluations and workplace safety initiatives. Working autonomously and in collaboration with physicians, the NP prescribes medications, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, and coordinates care within an interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity and optimal outcomes. The NP also provides clinical guidance and mentorship to nursing staff, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals, assists in training and onboarding new clinical staff, and oversees patient care coordination, ensuring best practices in treatment and follow-up care.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program.
  • Current state licensure as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP).
  • National certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., AANP, ANCC).
  • Current DEA registration for prescribing medications.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Certification as a FMCSA Certified Medical Examiner (must be listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners).
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner, preferably in acute care/urgent care, emergency, or occupational health settings.
  • Experience in the evaluation and management of acute illnesses and minor injuries (e.g., infections, musculoskeletal injuries, lacerations).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing work-related injuries and illnesses, including documentation, care coordination, and return-to-work recommendations.
  • Familiarity with state-specific (FL) workers’ compensation processes, including regulatory requirements, employer communication, and functional/work status documentation.
  • Experience performing occupational health services (e.g., pre-employment, surveillance, and regulatory exams, including DOT physicals).

Responsibilities

  • Conducts focused health assessments for acute illnesses, minor injuries, and work-related conditions, including physical exams, history taking, and targeted diagnostic evaluations.
  • Diagnoses and manages acute conditions, providing timely treatment and follow-up to support resolution and prevent complications.
  • Evaluates and treats occupational injuries and illnesses, including initial care, ongoing management, and coordination of return-to-work plans in alignment with employer and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs occupational health services, including pre-employment, surveillance, and regulatory exams, with knowledge of and adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) medical standards and other applicable occupational health standards.
  • Manages workers’ compensation cases, including documentation, care coordination, communication with employers, and support of safe and timely return-to-work processes.
  • Prescribes medications and non-pharmacologic therapies in accordance with state, federal, and occupational health guidelines.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests such as laboratory work, imaging, EKGs, and work-related screening tests.
  • Performs minor procedures within scope of practice (e.g., wound care, laceration repair, splinting) related to acute and occupational injuries.
  • Provides patient and employer education on injury prevention, workplace safety, and health maintenance relevant to job-specific risks.
  • Collaborates with specialists, employers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care and appropriate case management.
  • Ensures timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), including regulatory and workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Adheres to all legal, ethical, and professional standards, including occupational health regulations and workplace safety guidelines.
  • Provides clinical guidance and mentorship to nursing staff, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assists in training and onboarding new clinical staff.
  • Oversees patient care coordination, ensuring best practices in treatment and follow-up care.
  • Participates in community health outreach and wellness programs.
  • Engages in continuous education and professional development to maintain clinical expertise.
  • Contributes to quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice implementation.
