About The Position

This role supervises nurse practitioners who are responsible for patient evaluation, testing, diagnosis, plans of care, and treatment within the UCSF Center for Reproductive Health. As a supervisor, you will receive assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the processes to achieve them. You will collaborate with physicians, surgeons, APPs, and other clinical and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient management based on accepted practice. This includes performing histories and physicals, pre-operative planning, coordinating with outside providers and PCPs, responding to changes in patient status, and providing prescriptions, evaluations, referrals, and treatments as permitted under standardized procedure. You will also provide home health services, DME, DMV evaluations, referrals, consultations, PT, order diagnostic tests, and specialized treatments (e.g., chemotherapy with approved privilege). Patient and family education, arranging follow-up appointments, and engaging in approved privileges after demonstrating competency through proctoring or FPPE are also key responsibilities. Independent practice for approved privileges will be identified on the ECHO website, and procedural activity will be logged and monitored via the eLOG system.

Requirements

  • Advanced practice nursing skills and knowledge for all aspects of patient care.
  • Ability to practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Ability to function as a solo provider or partner within a treatment team.
  • Ability to perform physical exams.
  • Ability to order diagnostic tests.
  • Ability to prescribe treatments.
  • Ability to educate patients.
  • Ability to serve as a patient’s primary healthcare provider.
  • Demonstrated competency through proctoring or FPPE process for approved privileges.
  • Adherence to all scheduling and communication policies.
  • Mandatory attendance at APP UCSF Onboarding Sessions (5 x 2 hours over 12 months).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-operative planning and coordinate with outside providers and PCPs.
  • Respond to changes in patient status.
  • Provide prescriptions, evaluations, referrals, and treatments as permitted under standardized procedure.
  • Provide home health services and DME.
  • Conduct DMV evaluations.
  • Provide referrals and consultations.
  • Order radiographic or diagnostic requests.
  • Provide specialized treatments (e.g., chemotherapy with approved privilege).
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Arrange follow-up appointments.
  • Engage in approved privileges after demonstrating competency through proctoring or FPPE.
  • Evaluate, assess, and create a documented plan of treatment per patient’s presenting HPI or established plan of care under the collaboration/supervision of an attending physician.
  • Answer clinically relevant patient medical advice calls or during bedside communications or in coordination with health care professionals, patients, and their families.
  • Independently or in a shared visit model, evaluate routine, acute, critical, new patients, or specialty consultations and discuss with attending and staff as appropriate.
  • Interpret and act upon ordered tests, procedures, and radiographic studies.
  • Assist in formulating and implementing protocols to improve efficiency in the clinical specialty.
  • Communicate effectively with family or patients in person, telephone, and/or other electronic modalities in a timely manner.
  • Ensure appropriate clinical coverage has been arranged for patient management and communication in their absence.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of UCSF Health in terms of HIPPA/Communication/Privacy/Code of Conduct, and any other UCSF or Med Center Policies.
  • Meet the encounter closure requirements of the Med Staff Bylaws.
  • Attend mandatory APP UCSF Onboarding Sessions.
