About The Position

Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Colo-Rectal and GI Surgical faculty, the Nurse Coordinator functions independently providing direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for the Colo-Rectal and GI Surgery Service in H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center. Functions as the primary contact for patients. Provides education as needed to the patients/family related to surgical care, diagnostic procedures, medication/treatments and other complex aspects of the plan of care. The nurse incorporates the psycho-motor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Assures that the continuum of care process is complete to include: pre-procedure, surgical preparation and teaching, hospitalization, anticipated discharge needs, and follow up in the physician offices. Supports the faculty in clinic for every patient care session. Occasionally performs scheduling of office visits and procedures. The nurse coordinator is accountable for the quality of nursing practice. Provides nursing services as needed and ensures safe use of all equipment in the physician office practice. Assists with other activities as assigned to help grow the practice and the referrals to UCI.

Requirements

  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Current CA RN license
  • Basic Life Support Certification from AHA
  • All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese (certain clinics may require this qualification)
