About The Position

This position is regional. The CNM hired for this position will work variable shifts at Troy Hospital and William Beaumont University Hospital. Shifts are primarily 12 hours and will be assigned in the OB Emergency Department at both hospitals and Labor & Delivery (WBUH only). Shifts will primarily be midnights, other shifts as needed and will include weekends. The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)-II is an advanced practice nurse who provides full scope midwifery care. The CNM provides care to the patient which is delivered during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum periods. The CNM also provides care to the gynecologic patient in the clinic/office setting. High risk patients are cared for in consultation and collaboration with the medical team. The practice setting for the CNM-II will be in the Outpatient Clinic, contractually with Obstetrician's offices, the Natural Birth Center, the Family Birth Center Triage and LDRs and the Post Partum unit with the focus on enhancement of clinical care, patient satisfaction, and safety. Clinical care may include first assisting in OB surgical cases.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nurse Midwifery Program, accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives or College of Nurse Midwifery.
  • 6 months of relevant experience
  • Obstetric nursing experience is required.
  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire is required
  • CRT-Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) - AMCB American Midwifery Certification Board is required
  • CRT-Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA American Heart Association within 180 Days is required
  • CRT-Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification (C-EFM) - NCC National Certification Corporation within 180 Days is required
  • CRT-Ob/Gyn (OB) - ARDMS American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Upon Hire preferred
  • CRT-At least one Certification from preferred list
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association or ARC American Red Cross preferred

Nice To Haves

  • One year Midwifery experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in the standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols for the CNM.
  • Performs physical exams, collects and documents data, manages labor and spontaneous delivery, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribes appropriate interventions and medications.
  • Formulates and implements prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and inter-conceptional care as defined by midwifery scope of practice.
  • Role models advanced practice professional nursing through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators and others and promotes patient and family centered care.
  • Provides continuity, compassionate, culturally sensitive care to patients, and models this for students and colleagues.
  • Completes fetal imaging testing as indicated and appropriate which may include evaluation of fetal well-being: biophysical profile, assessment of amniotic fluid volume, determination of placental location, confirmation of cardiac activity, determination of fetal lie or presentation, estimation of fetal weight.
  • Serves on appropriate unit and hospital wide committees related to woman and infant services.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision -making in all clinical practice.
  • Incorporates clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care.
  • Supports HIC approved clinical research/trials.
  • Assesses educational needs, plans, provides and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare team, and community.
  • Precepts nurse midwifery students and provides education and support to Residents and Medical Students.
  • Provides patient and family education related to prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and interconceptional care.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Performs quality control testing of amnioswab and urine dip stick testing on FBC unit.
