About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, this role provides 24-hour operational accountability for Wyman 2, a 15-bed Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry unit. The Nurse Manager collaborates with the Director and other nursing and interdisciplinary leaders to develop and oversee a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients and a high-performing work environment for all staff. The manager is responsible for all staff-related matters, operating the respective teams within budgetary guidelines, and continuing to enhance quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Current licensure from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • BSN required.
  • Current AHA BLS required.
  • 3-5 years of related work experience.
  • 0-1 years supervisory/manager experience required.
  • Demonstrated competencies working collaboratively across an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience with EHRs (EPIC preferred), MS Office applications preferred.
  • Competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal: Birth to 6 months, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60+
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
  • Employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the effective selection, development, and ongoing performance management of staff to ensure the right talent is in place to achieve staff experience, clinical, patient experience, quality, and financial goals.
  • Acts as a role model for excellence in leadership, quality, patient experience, staff experience, and service excellence.
  • Supports staff in the identification of patient care priorities and promotes the development of critical thinking skills in clinical areas.
  • Assists the team in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, serving as an internal consultant for difficult and/or complex patient care needs.
  • Partners with the Director to prepare and monitor unit budgets and prepares variance reports and plans for budget adherence.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and participates in the development and implementation of standards of nursing care practice, utilizing nursing research to support and advance professional nursing practice.
  • Represents the nursing discipline and/or own unit on hospital-wide committees and/or initiatives.
  • Directly ensures all credentials, including licensure, certifications, trainings, and competencies, are maintained in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary clinical meetings with the main objective being the successful treatment and management of patient care, modeling and promoting patient advocacy.
  • Reviews all incident reports, restraint and seclusion forms for completeness and clarity, reporting negative outcomes to quality and safety and problem-solving with other managers to prevent further negative outcomes.
  • Responsible for the development of education materials for patients, families, and staff, collaborating with Quality and Safety and/or Nursing Professional Development.
  • Responsible for ongoing process improvement efforts in all assigned areas to meet or exceed benchmarks in key areas.
  • Identifies staff educational needs and develops educational programs to meet those needs, ensuring appropriate programs are planned, developed, and implemented.
  • Accepts responsibility for identifying and meeting own educational needs.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of broad nursing division goals and department/unit specific goals.
  • Maintains effective open communication across all areas to ensure alignment of programs, services, and outcomes.
  • Participates in the educational experiences of students on clinical rotations.
  • Maintains thorough understanding of hospital policies and protocols, practicing within those policies and ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations (DMH, DPH, BORM, BORN, Joint Commission).
  • Builds collegial relationships resulting in compassionate and committed teams and with all stakeholders, demonstrating commitment to the Mount Auburn Hospital culture, core values, and leadership model.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of standards, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that facilitate quality patient care and creative professional practice.
