About The Position

You will lead the clinical and operational management of a psychiatric unit, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This role combines nursing leadership, performance improvement, and operational oversight to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered mental health services.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in psychiatric care.
Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a hospital setting.
Proven experience managing a psychiatric unit in a hospital environment.
Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (NYSDOH, JCAHO, DOH).
Experience with quality improvement methodologies (CQI, Root Cause Analysis).
Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to use electronic medical records (EMR) and healthcare systems.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Nursing or related field.
Experience with budgeting and operational planning.
Advanced certifications in psychiatric or leadership nursing.
Experience improving patient satisfaction metrics (HCAHPS).

Responsibilities

Lead daily operations of the psychiatric unit in collaboration with the Director.
Ensure high-quality patient care aligned with clinical standards, ethics, and nursing philosophy.
Oversee admissions, discharges, and clinical management to ensure appropriate care planning.
Coordinate interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives and quality programs.
Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements (NYSDOH, JCAHO, DOHMH, OMH).
Prepare and analyze clinical and operational reports for regulatory and internal stakeholders.
Manage staffing, scheduling, and administrative coverage for 24/7 operations.
Support budgeting, inventory management, and resource planning.
Lead and mentor nursing staff, ensuring competencies and professional development.
Facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
Maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Represent the organization professionally and promote a positive patient experience (HCAHPS).
