About The Position

You will lead the clinical and operational management of a psychiatric unit, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This role combines nursing leadership, performance improvement, and operational oversight to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered mental health services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in psychiatric care.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a hospital setting.
  • Proven experience managing a psychiatric unit in a hospital environment.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements (NYSDOH, JCAHO, DOH).
  • Experience with quality improvement methodologies (CQI, Root Cause Analysis).
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use electronic medical records (EMR) and healthcare systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field.
  • Experience with budgeting and operational planning.
  • Advanced certifications in psychiatric or leadership nursing.
  • Experience improving patient satisfaction metrics (HCAHPS).

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of the psychiatric unit in collaboration with the Director.
  • Ensure high-quality patient care aligned with clinical standards, ethics, and nursing philosophy.
  • Oversee admissions, discharges, and clinical management to ensure appropriate care planning.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives and quality programs.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements (NYSDOH, JCAHO, DOHMH, OMH).
  • Prepare and analyze clinical and operational reports for regulatory and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and administrative coverage for 24/7 operations.
  • Support budgeting, inventory management, and resource planning.
  • Lead and mentor nursing staff, ensuring competencies and professional development.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
  • Maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Represent the organization professionally and promote a positive patient experience (HCAHPS).
