About The Position

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Clinical Nurse Manager for their Ortho Spine Bariatrics Unit in Suffolk, VA. The RN Clinical Manager will oversee 45 direct reports, including RN's, Unit Coordinators, Patient Care Technicians, LPN's, and administrative staff. The role involves 8-hour days with 24/7 accountability, requiring flexibility to meet with staff on all shifts. The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operations of clinical areas, supervising patient care staff, ensuring patient safety, quality outcomes, and an excellent patient/family experience. Key duties include interviewing, hiring, developing, and retaining staff to build a highly reliable team. The role also involves effective communication, budget monitoring, purchasing, payroll processes, and serving as a clinical resource. The 1 East Surgery Unit is a 24-bed unit specializing in orthopedics, spine, and bariatrics, providing high-quality, short-stay care for patients with an average stay of 1-2 days. The unit also manages high acuity surgical patients from Endoscopy, General surgery, and GI. RN staff typically have a 1:5 or 1:6 ratio with 6-8 patient discharges per shift. It is a fast-paced environment that supports ongoing staff development through a comprehensive orientation program, with regular meetings between managers and educators to refine learning strategies and enhance clinical skills. The unit is supported by Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), Unit Coordinators, and experienced preceptors, fostering a nurturing learning environment for professional growth. The surgeons and team are nationally recognized for excellence through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN (Required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • 1 year of previous management experience OR 2 years' experience in a support leadership RN position, (Required)
  • 3 years of nursing experience (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • MSN (Preferred)
  • Nationally recognized certification (Preferred)
  • CNL (Clinical Nurse Leader) or CMNL (Nurse Manager and Leader) preferred
  • CMSRN-Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Preferred.
  • 5+ years of nursing experience preferred
  • Medical Surgical or Oncology background preferred
