More about our team Our Acute Care Unit is a 31‑bed inpatient unit specializing in adult acute care & oncology overflow. The unit consists of 52 employees when fully staffed. Nurses on this unit typically manage a 1:6 nurse‑to‑patient ratio. This dynamic environment is a great place to start for RN’s looking to develop critical care skills and offers nurses the opportunity to strengthen their clinical expertise while delivering compassionate, high quality care. Nurses on this unit are provided the opportunity to earn dialysis certification as part of their professional development.

Requirements

  • Current Alabama or compact state RN license
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited nursing school
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or current enrollment in a bachelor’s program for nursing required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification
  • Three or more years of experience in all aspects of medical surgical nursing
  • A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily operations of the assigned department functioning to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Responsible for the direction of patient care with the assigned scope.
  • Assists with developing specific departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization.
  • Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management.
  • Performs and oversees scheduling, staff development, recruitment, payroll, and student engagements.
  • Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations.
  • Determines and justifies needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases, monitors usage, and oversees proper working order and/or stock supplies.
  • Assesses the quality of patient care delivered and coordinates patient care services with patients, staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • May provide patient care when necessary.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
