The Nurse Manager - Primary Care role is responsible for utilizing nursing assessment, management, and educational skills in providing direct patient care. This position facilitates communication among nursing, medical assistant staff, and medical providers. The Nurse Manager orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests, administers injections and immunizations, and maintains immunization records and vaccine inventory. They are the site point person for DPH audits and inspections regarding vaccine management. This role involves scheduling nurse visits, conducting annual evaluations, training, scheduling, delegating work, and taking disciplinary actions for nursing staff. The Nurse Manager ensures the review of all incoming laboratory reports and manages follow-up systems for abnormal results. They prepare nursing staff schedules, schedule daily assignments, and monitor medical supplies and equipment, ordering as needed within budget constraints. Additionally, this role assists in developing educational materials for patients and staff, conducts staff audits, and may participate in medical research. Collaboration with front desk supervisors, other supervisors, and departments is essential, as is maintaining open communication with CHC and Corporate Directors. The Nurse Manager handles patient grievances and participates in defining nursing standards and educational needs. They also participate in community health activities and manage patient care as a team effort, demonstrating commitment to the health center's mission and values. The role involves providing clinical assistance to Medical, Dental, and Behavioral Health Departments, formulating and directing patient care plans, and supervising nursing care provided by RNs, LPNs, and MAs. The Nurse Manager evaluates the effectiveness of care plans, acts as a client advocate, and assists in developing and implementing nursing quality improvement components. They prepare reports and statistics, and assist in developing and implementing protocols, procedures, and staff training. Collaboration with the OSHA supervisor to maintain safety standards is also a key responsibility. In terms of personnel and operations, the Nurse Manager recruits, selects, assigns, and evaluates medical personnel, demonstrates team-building skills, develops and implements staffing patterns, and counsels staff on personnel issues. Financially, they track employee time, vacation, and sick days, prepare budgets, and monitor ordering and fiscal responsibilities.
