About The Position

Provides operational leadership for hospital nursing services across all shifts. Responsible for coordinating daily hospital operations, house supervision activities, and staffing management.

Requirements

  • Bachelors required; Masters preferred
  • TN or Compact RN Licensure Required
  • 2-3 years pediatric nursing experience required
  • 2-3 years management experience required
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency.
  • Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication, skills and abilities to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, confront/resolve issues, and motivate others, ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of others.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in specific area of nursing practice.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day nursing and hospital operations to ensure efficient patient care delivery.
  • Collaborate with Transfer Center Manager to monitor and improve hospital-wide patient flow, admissions, transfers, discharges, and bed management activities.
  • Monitor capacity management and collaborate with clinical leaders to optimize throughput and resource utilization.
  • Address operational issues impacting patient care, staff productivity, and departmental performance.
  • Support implementation of organizational initiatives, strategic goals, and performance improvement efforts.
  • Provide leadership and support to house supervisors across all shifts.
  • Ensure consistent operational decision-making and adherence to organizational policies.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex staffing, patient placement, and operational concerns.
  • Coordinate after-hours, weekend, and holiday operations as needed.
  • Support management of hospital incidents, emergency situations, and critical events.
  • Facilitate communication between hospital leadership, nursing units, physicians, and ancillary services during off-shift operations.
  • Directly supervises Flexible Staffing Pool Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Unit Techs (UTs) and Patient Safey Companions (PSCs), and other assigned personnel.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Education and Nursing Leaders to develop robust float pool competencies and flexible staffing strategies.
  • Monitor staffing productivity, labor utilization, overtime, premium pay, and agency usage.
  • Utilizes staffing software and scheduling systems to optimize workforce allocation.
  • Collaborate with nursing leaders regarding staffing allocations and workforce planning.
  • Support recruitment, retention, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Participate in performance management, staff development, and leadership mentoring.
  • Promote a culture of patient safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor quality indicators, safety events, patient complaints, and operational metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state regulations, EMTALA requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in regulatory readiness, accreditation surveys, and corrective action planning.
  • Support infection prevention, risk management, and patient experience initiatives.
  • Participate in hospital emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
  • Serve in leadership roles during emergencies, disasters, mass casualty incidents, and internal operational disruptions.
  • Coordinate staffing and resource allocation during emergency events.
  • Assist with activation and operation of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).
  • Ensure hospital readiness for surge events and continuity of operations.
  • Assist in development and management of operational and labor budgets.
  • Monitor labor costs, productivity benchmarks, and departmental expenses.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs.
  • Support capital planning and resource allocation decisions.
  • Collaborate with nursing managers and directors, clinical leaders, physicians, and administrative leadership to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Lead operational meetings and communicate organizational priorities throughout the hospital.
  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and service excellence across departments.
  • Utilize data and performance metrics to drive decision-making and operational improvements.
