About The Position

The Hospital's Perioperative Services encompasses the General OR, Cardiac OR, Orthopedic OR and Ambulatory Surgery Center - one of the largest and most diverse surgical operations in the region. As Nurse Manager, you'll lead a team of 3 Assistant Nurse Managers and up to 120 FTEs, setting the clinical, operational, and fiscal direction for the entire perioperative service line. This role offers strategic scope, allowing you to direct the full perioperative service line with budget authority and a direct line to shaping department strategy. You will lead within a nationally recognized academic medical center and Level II Trauma Center, the largest community hospital in Maryland. The position provides leadership investment with access to executive-level development, mentorship, and a defined pathway toward Director-level roles. You will also be responsible for developing your Assistant Nurse Managers and staff through the Clinical Ladder, while shaping a high-performing team across four surgical specialties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a CCNE-accredited program required
  • Active Maryland Registered Nurse (RN) license upon hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required
  • National certification required
  • 3–5 years of progressive OR nursing experience required, with demonstrated supervisory progression required
  • Strong fiscal management, performance evaluation, and cross-functional leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree (MSN, MS, MA, MHA, or MBA) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily clinical operations across the General OR, Cardiac OR, Orthopedic OR, and Ambulatory Surgery Center
  • Lead and evaluate 3 Assistant Nurse Managers and up to 120 FTEs using objective performance management criteria
  • Manage the department's operating and capital budget, identifying and correcting variances
  • Drive OR-specific performance improvements — case turnover, utilization, and throughput — in partnership with surgical and anesthesia leadership
  • Champion staff advancement through the Clinical Ladder, specialty certification, and formal education pathways
