About The Position

The Nurse Manager has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the overall operations and patient care provided in the department. This individual displays competence in the 5 core health care competencies of interdisciplinary team work, quality improvement, evidence based practice, patient focused care and informatics. Responsibilities include organizational planning, compliance with regulatory standards, fiscal management, setting and maintaining standards of nursing care and practice, coordinating services, and providing for the professional growth of staff. This individual serves as a clinical resource for nurses and have a responsibility for monitoring/assessing clinical practice, guiding the development of standards of care and practice, and counseling/educating staff when practice deviates from standards. The individual in this role will interface with patients, families, staff, external agencies such as Emergency Medical Services (EMS), departments across the organization and the network, as well as nursing leadership and quality teams across the network.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with NYS license
  • Baccalaureate degree
  • Two to five years’ critical care or emergency room experience, including experience in patient care
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Three to five years of demonstrated progressive leadership
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities
  • Able to work under stressful situations
  • Possesses good oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates interpersonal relationships in a manner that enhances communication, promotes conflict resolutions and facilitates staff development
  • Skills & knowledge to sustain and evaluate clinical completion in caring for specific age and type of patient population served
  • As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of patients for which care is being provided.

Nice To Haves

  • Responding to Intense Emotional Situations (RIES) or similar program within the first year
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within two years of hire
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within two years of hire
