About The Position

The Emergency Department Manager provides operational leadership and clinical oversight for the Emergency Department services, ensuring safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care in a rural critical access hospital. This role oversees staffing, performance management, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, budgeting support, and department operations while promoting evidence-based practice and continuous clinical excellence. The position requires balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, responding to operational challenges, maintaining regulatory readiness, and supporting staff through change and complex patient care situations. Success depends on close collaboration with Nursing Directors, charge nurses, physicians, interdisciplinary leaders, and support departments to improve patient flow, staff development, patient satisfaction, and organizational performance. This is a primarily leadership-focused position with regular unit rounding, staff coaching, project participation, and responsibility for department operations, including serving as the department leader in the absence of the Nursing Directors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current Minnesota RN license
  • American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire
  • American Heart Association ACLS and PALS required within 4 months of hire
  • TNCC required within 1 year of hire
  • Prior leadership experience in a hospital setting is required
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success in hospital-based leadership roles
