About The Position

RainCity Housing is an organization that makes a difference in people’s lives. Our mission is to advance social equity by building upon the strengths of our community and of each individual. With a goal of providing a home for everyone, RainCity’s programs sustain relationships, strengthen communities, and make change for people experiencing homelessness, mental health, trauma, and substance use issues. RainCity Housing has been developing emerging and promising practices for over 40 years in social services and healthcare, providing Housing First, harm reduction and supports for community members who access our services.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Diploma (RN/RPN) in Nursing
  • Current practicing registration with the BCCNM (BC College of Nurses and Midwives).
  • Three (3) years’ recent related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and addiction concerns, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid class 5 BC Drivers License and acceptable drivers abstract. Will require the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and its implications and limitations.
  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centred model
  • Broad knowledge of diagnoses, treatment and support resources in the areas of mental illness, substance use, physical health, including HIV and Hepatitis C.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness and problematic substance use.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and activities
  • Basic knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to client, including the Residential Tenancy ACT and the BC Mental Health Act.
  • Demonstrated understanding of oppression and marginalization, specifically as related to people with experience of a mental illness, addiction, or homelessness.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a downtown environment and be flexible and creative in providing services
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must be able to drive for outreach visits, have a valid BC driver's license with a clear abstract, and be eligible for a MODO account.
  • Must be willing and able to receive a clearance under the Criminal Record Review Act.
  • A clear British Columbia Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable adults and/or children is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, identify, plan, implement and evaluate the care required to assist ACT team clients in meeting their physical, psychiatric, social and spiritual needs.
  • Work within the team’s interdisciplinary clinical framework to provide client centered and strengths-based care in accordance with the BCCNM Standards of Practice and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established policy and protocols of RainCity Housing and the ACT team.
  • Provide treatment services that are both inclusionary and flexible for individuals with mental illness, addictions and/or chronic medical conditions and ensures integration and continuity across the care continuum.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with, and consults with community health clinics, hospitals, housing providers and the interdisciplinary teams to provide appropriate treatment services based on best practices and client need.
  • Perform duties such as, intake, mental and physical health and substance use assessment, treatment planning, crisis intervention, consultation with hospitals around care planning and discharge, wound care and medication monitoring and administration.
